Sunny Jim: A Biography

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

James "Sunny Jim" White is a son of the Gulf Coast - all the way from Corpus Christi, TX, to Suncoast, FL.

Picking up the guitar as a teenager, Sunny Jim traveled the US playing music as a young man.  While playing in Nashville, TN, he joined a band on their way to the Cayman Islands for a year-long gig.  While the rest of the band moved on after the year passed, Jim found the Caribbean lifestyle too appealing to give up.  He became the artist-in-residence at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman, one of the finest hotels in the entire Hyatt chain and a magnet for eccentric characters from all over the world.  Twelve years of sunshine and music passed.

In 1997, Jim had a big break when Radio Margaritaville broadcast his show live from the Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman.  He soon became a regular on the show and by 2000 he had moved back to Florida.  He has released 8 albums to date, with the most current one, KISS (Keep it Simple), winning the 2011 Trop Rock Music Award for "CD of the Year".   Sunny Jim currently tours across the US and Caribbean sometimes as a solo act and sometimes with a band.  You can read more about him here at his website and you can catch him on Wednesday afternoons at 7 on the Gulf Coast Cowboy Hour, right here on KBEC 1390!
