The son of a merchant marine from Venezuela and an artist from Mexico, Jerry Diaz has a unique heritage that is perfect for the coastal life.

Born and raised on the upper Texas coastline, Diaz has been writing music about the Gulf Coast his entire life.  He formed his first band, Key West, in 1993 and began touring from Key West, FL, to New Orleans, LA, to Corpus Christi, TX.  The band toured extensively for nine years playing mostly covers, but found the time to crank out three albums along the way.  The band eventually disbanded, but from the ashes of Key West came Hanna's Reef.

Hanna's Reef, the second band Diaz founded, came to be in July, 2002.  Within a year they had recorded a live album, Reef Madness, and by 2004 they had put together a full studio album, Deja View.  Diaz would also perform as a solo act from time to time as well as play alongside other Trop Rock icons like Brent Burns, Kelly McGuire, and Sunny Jim.  The band came back together in 2009 to produce their latest album, Home on the Gulf Coast.

When not playing music, Jerry Diaz and his wife Mary own and operate Sail Away Promotions and Entertainment which presents several events throughout the year, including the ever-growing Pardi Gras in New Orleans.  He is currently on the road along the Texas Gulf Coast playing in towns like Port Arthur.  If you'd like to check out more about Jerry Diaz, you can visit his website here.  Be sure to catch the Gulf Coast Cowboy Hour at 7 PM on Wednesdays to hear some of Jerry's work - right here on KBEC 1390!
