Featured Artist Friday: June 15th

The ending of some things, like this week, often open the door to new things, like some music!

This week's Featured Artist Friday will be a little different than what we've done in the past - it's Oklahoma week!  As many of our listeners know, folks from Texas and Oklahoma are often getting into it over things like "who has the better sports teams?" and "who can drink more lite beer?", but when it comes to country music both states put aside their differences and greatness often ensues.  Case in point: Red Dirt country music!  We've got two #1 hit country songs this week from one of the biggest names in Red Dirt, the Zac Brown Band: "Keep Me In Mind" and "Knee Deep".  Both can be found on the You Get What You Give album and have been played by request previously on our station several times.

We are also adding Eric Clapton's "Lay Down Sally" this week.  You might be asking yourself "what does Eric Clapton have to do with Oklahoma?", but the truth is that he was so inspired by the Oklahoma country sound (specifically legendary Tulsa-born guitarist JJ Cale) that he wrote this song along with Americans Marcy Levy and George Terry to emulate it.  The song, released on his Slowhand record, would go on to be an international hit, peaking at #3 on the US Hot 100 and now you can hear it here on KBEC 1390!

So, in summary:

  1. "Keep Me In Mind" - Zac Brown Band
  2. "Knee Deep" - Zac Brown Band
  3. "Lay Down Sally" - Eric Clapton

Every Friday, we will be adding a few new songs to the KBEC rotation.  You can hear our choices for the week on the Afternoon Drive.  If you have any comments or suggestions on who we should or shouldn't add, feel free to drop us an e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
