Polka music is a Texas tradition that goes back over a century! KBEC 1390 is proud to introduce our newest program on Sunday, January 6th: The Polka Party with Danny Zapletal.

Starting January 6th, join us every Sunday morning at 9 o'clock for The Polka Party!

Danny "Z" is an Ennis, Texas, native who has had an overwhelming love of polka since his earliest days.  Polka has been a huge part of his life as his father was one of the Ennis Polka Festival co-founders back in 1967.  Proud of his Czech heritage, Danny is a trumpet player who joined the Texas Dutchmen polka band as a young man in 1980.  He started getting involved with the Ennis Polka Festival in 1992 and became its vice-president in 1993 and its president in 1994.  He has been its executive director since 2000.  He loves all varieties of polka, although he admits to having a weakness for Czech-style polkas!  His goal with The Polka Party is to support the Czech polka community in our area and continue the strong polka traditions of our area.

We welcome Danny as the newest member of the KBEC 1390 family!

"Polka" actually refers to both a genre of music and a type of dance that accompanies it.  It came to the United States with the many European immigrants coming to our shores in the 19th century and has been a staple in many places throughout our country ever since!  There are many styles of polka music that feature a range of instruments including trumpets, tubas, banjos, and accordions, but one thing they all share is their ability to bring communities together.  The "death" of polka has been predicted many times, but so far all of the naysayers have been wrong!

The Polka Party with Danny Zapletal will premiere Sunday, January 6th, at 9 AM and run until 11 AM.  Requests, dedications, birthday announcements, and other well-wishes are welcome - just click This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
