East Texas has one of its busiest weekends of the fall on tap. The East Texas State Fair in Tyler runs daily through Sunday with rodeo action, a livestock show, pig races, and live music every night. The 51st annual Titus County Fair is on through Saturday at the Titus County Civic Center in Mount Pleasant. And Canton’s First Monday Trade Days, the world’s largest flea market, spreads vendors across 450 acres through Sunday. Daingerfield Days also expands to three days starting Thursday with a carnival, BBQ competition, car show, and parade.
There’s a weather catch, and it’s a big one. Remnants of Hurricane Polo moving across Mexico could bring one to four inches of rain to East Texas this weekend. That means muddy fairgrounds, slick roads, and possible flooding in low-lying areas. If you’re planning the drive from Waxahachie, check conditions before you go and never drive through water covering a roadway.
If you’re staying closer to home, Saturday also brings SAFFE Day in Kilgore and a masquerade at the Goodman Museum in Tyler, and World of Khaos haunted houses open Thursday in Tyler through Halloween night. With so much going on, the smart move is picking one or two events, packing rain gear, and building in extra travel time. Which East Texas event is on your list this weekend?
