Ogunbowale’s record 45 points force Game 3 between Wings and Valkyries

Arike Ogunbowale scored a WNBA playoff-record 45 points Wednesday night, and the Dallas Wings needed every one of them to beat the Golden State Valkyries 108-100 in overtime and force a deciding Game 3 in their first-round series Friday in San Francisco.

Ogunbowale was quiet in the opener, scoring just 10 points in a 24-point loss, and she clearly wasn’t interested in a repeat. She hit an off-balance corner three with 4.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, banked in another three in the extra period, and then knocked down the go-ahead shot to put Dallas up 103-100. She scored 22 points across the fourth quarter and overtime. Paige Bueckers had a tough shooting night, finishing with 10 points on 3-of-13, but assisted on both of Ogunbowale’s overtime threes. Golden State’s Gabby Williams scored a career-high 36 in the loss.

The series now comes down to one game. The Valkyries won the opener by 24 and will be at home Friday, while Dallas is playing for its first semifinal appearance in years. Tip-off is Friday night. If you’ve been meaning to catch a Wings game this season, this is the one.
