Trump Pushes Paxton to Debate Talarico in Texas Senate Race

President Trump posted on social media Thursday that Ken Paxton should get on a debate stage with James Talarico, and Talarico responded within moments: he agrees, and the ball is in Paxton’s court. It’s a notable twist in a Senate race where the two major-party nominees still have not appeared together. Talarico has challenged Paxton to debates repeatedly, including three televised debates proposed back in July that never materialized.

Paxton’s campaign spent the week needling Talarico for pausing events while sick with the flu, with a spokeswoman asking for “proof of life.” Talarico is expected back on the campaign trail this weekend. Paxton, meanwhile, has not publicly responded to Trump’s debate push, and no debate is currently on the calendar.

With more than $247 million spent on advertising in this race, a single debate could be the moment that actually breaks through for voters ahead of the Nov. 3 election. So we want to hear from you: do you think these two will end up on the same stage before Election Day?
