Texas Families Have Until Sunday to Save on College Applications

Texas Free College Application Week is underway, and Waxahachie families have until Sunday, October 18 to take advantage of waived undergraduate application fees at public colleges and universities across the state. Applications must be submitted through ApplyTexas by 11:59 p.m. Central Time that night.

The waiver covers public universities, community colleges, and state technical colleges for Texas residents. It applies to high school seniors, first-time students, transfer students, and even some adults considering a return to school. With fees typically running $50 or more per application, families applying to multiple schools can save hundreds of dollars in a single weekend. More than 260,000 applications were submitted during last year’s event.

One important note: the waiver covers the application fee only. Tuition, textbooks, fees, and housing are not included, and grad school applications don’t qualify. Also, starting an application isn’t enough. It has to be submitted by the Sunday night deadline. Local high school counselors and college admissions offices can help if you run into questions.
