Tesla’s Steering-Wheel-Free Cybercab Is Headed to Dallas

Tesla says its Cybercab, the fully autonomous two-passenger vehicle with no steering wheel and no pedals, is coming to Dallas after launching passenger service in Austin. Tesla VP of AI Software Ashok Elluswamy named Dallas as the next market on October 10, though the company hasn’t announced a launch date. Dozens of the gold two-seaters have already been photographed at a Tesla facility in Dallas, and drivers around the Metroplex have spotted them on area roads.

For now, Dallas passengers are still picked up in Model Y robotaxis, which keep their steering wheels and pedals. The Cybercab would be the first fully driverless option for riders in North Texas. Tesla says more than 300 Cybercabs are serving Austin, but that figure comes from the company and hasn’t been independently verified, so it’s worth watching what real-world numbers show once Dallas service begins.

For those of us in Waxahachie, the expansion is a sign that driverless technology is moving steadily closer to Ellis County. It raises practical questions about safety, comfort and whether people are ready to ride without a wheel to grab. We want to hear your take before the first Cybercab picks up a passenger in Dallas.

Would you ride in a car with no steering wheel? Tell us in the comments.
