For Waxahachie folks who want more than a corn maze this fall, there’s a Victorian mansion about an hour and a half west in Mineral Wells that rents out for overnight ghost hunts. Haunted Hill House is a 3,800-square-foot home with a past tied to bootlegging, prostitution, gambling and reported deaths, and the owners have leaned all the way into its paranormal reputation. The stories center on a spirit named Toby, and the website posts footage that supposedly shows him.
The setup is straightforward. You and up to seven friends book the house for the night and investigate however you like, with no tour group and no staged scares. Rates are $500 Sunday through Thursday and $550 Friday and Saturday, with a $200 deposit. That works out to roughly $70 per person with a full group of eight. Reservations aren’t made online: check the website calendar and then call 817-884-7152 to book.
There are plenty of haunted Texas legends nearby, from the ghost lights of Bragg Road to the Driskill Hotel in Austin, but few give you the keys to a creepy Victorian mansion for the night. If your fall bucket list needs a road trip with a side of goosebumps, Mineral Wells is an easy drive and the rates won’t wreck your budget. The only real question is which friend you’re assigning to the upstairs room. So tell us: would you actually spend the night, or are you staying in the car with the doors locked?
