Paxton vs. Talarico: Fear, Hope and $340M in Texas Senate Race

The Texas U.S. Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico has officially become one of the most expensive congressional contests in American history. Since the two candidates locked in their nominations, total ad spending has climbed to just under $340 million, fueled in large part by Elon Musk’s $158 million contribution to the Senate Leadership Fund, which is backing Paxton. President Trump’s endorsement and campaign visits have also boosted Paxton, who defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the primary.

Talarico, meanwhile, is running on a message of hope and anti-corruption reform, courting independents and disaffected Republicans. This week he picked up an endorsement from Neil Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush, a notable defection in a state where Democrats haven’t won a statewide race in decades. Paxton’s campaign is leaning into the fear of a liberal takeover, warning that Texas could turn blue if voters don’t show up.

For voters here in Waxahachie and across Ellis County, this race represents something bigger than party politics. The outcome could determine control of Congress and reshape the national political map. Early voting is already underway, and both campaigns are pushing hard in the final days. Whether you’re a lifelong Republican, a committed Democrat, or somewhere in between, the choices on your ballot have never mattered more.

What do you think about the record-breaking spending in this race? Let us know in the comments below.
