A drive from Waxahachie into Dallas during rush hour can swallow an entire hour of your day. Archer Aviation says it can make that trip in about ten minutes, and last week the company announced plans for an electric air taxi network connecting Austin, Dallas and Houston.
The pitch lines up with a problem TxDOT documented in 2025: the state’s ten most congested road segments are all in those three metro areas. What Archer hasn’t shared is just as important. There’s no official timeline for Texas operations and no word on fares, which is exactly where Mustafa Tameez of the Transportation Advocacy Group of Houston raised concerns. He told Spectrum News the service could boost commerce across the Texas triangle but questioned whether it will serve everyday commuters or only higher-income riders, calling it “a very expensive way to travel, very high end.” The plan also arrived shortly after Elon Musk proposed a tunnel between San Antonio and Austin, so Texas now has two very different visions for beating gridlock.
For Ellis County, the story is less about catching a flight and more about the future of how this region moves. Faster connections to Dallas could open doors for local workers and businesses, while the cost question decides who actually gets through those doors. So we want to hear from you: if the fare were reasonable, would you trade the traffic for the sky? Let us know in the comments.
