Hellebuyck wins Devils debut as New Jersey beats Dallas 5-1

The Dallas Stars brought a five-game win streak into Tuesday night at the American Airlines Center. New Jersey brought Connor Hellebuyck. The Devils left with a 5-1 win and Dallas left with a season-high goals allowed.

Hellebuyck, playing four days after Winnipeg traded him following a suspension for failing to report to training camp, stopped 16 of 17 shots in his New Jersey debut. Nico Hischier scored twice, and Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes and Jesper Boqvist each added goals as the Devils won their fourth straight. Justin Hryckowian scored for Dallas, which saw its streak snapped.

The bigger concern for Stars fans might be Kyle Capobianco, who left the game with an apparent leg injury. Dallas has leaned heavily on its defensive corps this season, and losing a blueliner for any stretch changes the picture. The penalty kill streak did continue, which is one bright spot from a rough night.

Were you at the game Tuesday, or watching from home? What’s your read on the Stars after that one?
