Dallas Love Field sets $2.5B renovation with new terminal and expanded concourses

Dallas Love Field is getting the biggest renovation in decades: a $2.5 billion project that adds a new terminal headhouse, expands concourses, and improves parking and access roads. Construction begins in 2027 and finishes by 2032, with individual pieces opening as they wrap up rather than one grand reveal at the end. For Waxahachie travelers who use Love Field as their quick Southwest hop, that means visible progress along the way.

One thing that won’t change is gate count. A 20-year-old agreement between Love Field, DFW Airport, American Airlines, and the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth caps the gates, so the plan focuses on space and comfort instead. The airport handled roughly 17 million passengers last year and expects up to 24 million in the next decade. Texas is in a full airport construction race, between this project, Houston’s new $2.6 billion terminal, and added gates at DFW.

For our community, Love Field has always been the easier drive and the easier parking compared to DFW, especially for a weekend trip or a quick flight to see family. The renovation keeps that convenience while making the inside of the airport feel like it belongs in the 2030s. So what do you think: is a bigger, nicer Love Field worth the money even without more gates? Tell us on our Facebook page.
