Victor Wembanyama turned in the game of his young career on Thursday night, scoring 52 points and hauling in 24 rebounds with eight blocks as San Antonio slipped past Dallas 112-111 for a sixth straight win. He did it while fighting a virus and after rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter, then returning to close it out with two putbacks and a free throw.
The first half alone was a piece of history: 29 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks made him the first player since play-by-play tracking began in 1996-97 to hit those marks in a half. Dallas had a chance at the end, but Kyrie Irving’s 15-footer with three seconds on the clock missed. Afterward, Wembanyama shrugged it off, saying his shots weren’t falling and that he can still do more.
San Antonio opened the season with two losses and hasn’t dropped a game since. It’s the kind of run that makes casual fans start checking box scores every night, even with high school football still owning Fridays around here. So what do you think: is this already the MVP race’s final word, or does the season have more to say? Tell us in the comments.
